Musicwerks.com Founder “DJ Eddie F” Ferrell Honored for Work with Beyoncé, Will Smith, Diddy, OutKast, Usher, Mary J. Blige

Edward “DJ Eddie F” Ferrell, co-founder of the online music label Musicwerks.com, boasts an astounding portfolio of A-list musicians he’s discovered, worked with and produced hits for over his two decades in the music business. The former VP of LaFace Records and Motown Records and founder of Untouchables Entertainment was honored by the Wells Luxury Group for his indelible impact on the industry that includes work with Beyoncé, Will Smith, Diddy, OutKast, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Usher, Mary J. Blige and other notables.

“I just recently moved [to Atlanta] and being recognized in the area of music and film is an honor. I feel like this has been a second home away from home,” he says inside the Four Seasons’ penthouse suite in Midtown Atlanta. “I’ve been working with ATL-iens for a while now, since being vice president and A&R of LaFace Records with L.A. Reid and working with the talent from that era — Toni Braxton, TLC [and] OutKast to some of the newer talent such as The-Dream [and] T.I. I’ve always felt like a member of the Atlanta community. But now I’ve officially moved here, so it’s definitely great to be embraced by the Atlanta community and be honored in this fashion.”

Ferrell co-founded the legendary rap group Heavy D and the Boyz back in the ‘80s, and helped popularize many acts from the Mt. Vernon, N.Y., region, including Heavy, Al B. Sure and Blige. Even Diddy stayed at Ferrell’s home during the infancy of his career. Ferrell established Untouchables Entertainment in 1989 and produced sounds and/or mixed albums for TLC, Destiny’s Child, Carey, Run-D.M.C. and Luther Vandross. In 1994, he became VP at LaFace Records and assisted L.A. Reid in developing acts like Usher, OutKast and Toni Braxton before moving on to Motown. His co-founding of Musicwerks.com and moving to Atlanta is the next phase of an already illustrious career in music

“Right now, Atlanta is a powerhouse. There are so many people here. There are so many aspects of positivity and good business that are coming out of this region. I’m looking to see what opportunities are here and make some things happen,” he says.

After what Ferrell has already accomplished, there is no doubt that he will make a lot happen. –terry shropshire
