What Young Black Females Can Learn From Snooki’s Sentencing

alt

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is one of the more popular cast members on MTV’s Jersey Shore. Well, it turns out that Snooki was in a New Jersey court earlier this week answering to a few criminal charges.

The 22-year-old was apparently arrested this past July for public intoxication. Judge Damian G. Murray fined her $533, ordered her to perform community service, spending a couple of days with abused animals at a zoo, and gave her a tongue lashing. He scolded her by saying, “Going through life rude, profane, obnoxious and self-indulgent — that’s not the way you want to live your life … Hopefully, this incident will impress upon you that there are consequences to your actions.”

To add further insult to injury, Murray called her a ‘Lindsay Lohan wannabe.’

The judge’s words may seem offensive, but they were right on the mark. While Snooki denies that she’s emulating Lindsay, her behavior and cry for attention say otherwise.

It’s time our young women begin acting like ladies and learn the value of modesty. Whatever happened to decency and her cousins humility and sobriety?

It’s unfortunate, but our daughters Peanut, Peaches and Pookie, and even Ashley, Brandy and Brittany are impressed by the obscene actions of Snooki, Lindsay, Kim and now Montana. Their goals in life are to be the next big reality stars and at least in one case (gasp) porn star.

While it may seem glamorous to be invited to walk the red carpet, have the paparazzi running after you and be the trending topic on the top blogs, in reality, it’s a lonely existence.

Temperance is a virtue and should be valued and embraced. Young women need to be constantly reminded that their dignity is worth more than a few thousand dollars an episode.

Let’s save our daughters from this foolery. Ignorance is never sexy and these women are not role models. Tell your daughters that the role models they should look to are in sororities, church, colleges and volunteering to help the needy. They are not making guest appearances at parties and disturbing the peace. yvette caslin
