altDespite having won a Grammy this year for “Best Female R&B Performance,” Fantasia Barrino is admitting that she decided to skip the Grammy Awards this year after she learned that she wouldn’t be a part of the lineup for the tribute to singing legend Aretha Franklin.

As reported by, Barrino admitted to the snub during an interview on BET’s “106 & Park.”

“They were honoring someone who was my idol, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanted to jump on the mic, because she is my favorite,” explained Barrino. “I felt like, you know, at the end of the day, I should have been on that stage.”

Instead, the tribute was handled by Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride, Florence Welch and Jennifer Hudson.  Barrino, as she admits, stayed at home and “cooked” in her “own world.”

Despite feeling slighted, Barrino admits that she was happy about her Grammy win.

“Every year when I go, I feel like they always look over the good singers who are still around, so this has just given me motivation,” she explained. “I just started crying and thanking God.”

Besides bringing into question why Barrino wasn’t deemed fit to be a part of the tribute, the slight also brings about speculation concerning a possible rivalry between Barrino and Hudson.

Both Barrino and Hudson are being considered to play the lead role in Franklin’s upcoming biopic, and while Barrino and her fans may want the singer to have the part, Hudson became the clear front-runner for the role after her spot-on rendition of Franklin classics during the tribute.
