Concert Review: Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross' 'I'm Still Music' Tour

Lil Wayne served eight months in prison after reaching the pinnacle of  his career with the album Tha Carter III. But with the release of two albums and the success of label mates Drake and Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne barely missed a beat while spending time on Riker’s Island.

While preparing for the upcoming release of Tha Carter IV, Lil Wayne has embarked on the “I’m Still Music” tour with Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross. The tour made its way to Philips Arena in Atlanta on April 9.

After several opening acts, Rick Ross hit the stage for a 30 minute set. The husky-voiced Miami rapper performed hits “Hustlin’,”  “Maybach Music 2,” “Super High,” and, the crowd favorite, “B.M.F.”

Lil Wayne followed Rick Ross and was backed by a DJ and a four-man band. Without a hype-man in tow, Lil Wayne opened with “I’m Going In,” “Got Money,” and “A Milli.”

He eventually stepped backstage so that Nicki Minaj could make her way to the forefront. From the onset, Nicki Minaj controlled the crowd like a seasoned veteran.

Most of the 20,000 fans stood during her entire time on stage as she performed “Your Love,” “Right Thru Me,” and “Monster.” Her showmanship was fascinating, eye catching and disturbing all at that same time. She changed outfits on several occasions, performed a lap dance for a female audience member and held a sex toy while rapping “Did It On’em.” She ended her set with the hit single, “Moment 4 Life.”

Lil Wayne returned to the stage and ran through his massive catalogue by rapping   “Lolli Pop,” “Bed Rock,” “Every Girl in The World,” “Mrs. Officer,” and “Fire Flame.”

He closed the show with his latest hit single, “6’7.” –amir shaw
