Jobi Tyson Makes the Elderly Smile, One Wish at a Time
Jobi Tyson, president and partner of SpencerTyson

Music and sports marketing expert Jobi Tyson is fulfilling dreams for seniors, a population she believes are “forgotten ones.” Tyson started Grand Wish Foundation to leave a legacy, “Since we don’t live forever, I wanted to create something that would. If it takes a village to raise a child, well, it takes a nation to honor our elders.”

No wish is too small or too big. Beneficiaries can request a wheelchair, dentures and hearing aids or assistance with publishing a book, family reunions and to meet their favorite Broadway star.

Here, the president and partner of SpencerTyson, a global public relations, marketing and branding firm, specializing in entertainment, sports and corporate executives, shares how and why she finds personal fulfillment in granting wishes to deserving seniors. –yvette caslin

Tell us about Grand Wish Foundation.

Grand Wish Foundation’s purpose is to grant wishes for senior citizens, 70 years or older. Our goal is to uplift them because their dreams are important.

Why did you choose to start this foundation?

My grandma was an integral part of my upbringing; her influence played a huge part in my life. I was taught to not only respect elders but to listen to their dreams, wisdom, hopes and life lessons. Granting wishes for the elderly is something I have been doing at my own expense for eight years, so I decided that it was selfish not to share this gift with the masses and to witness what I’ve had the pleasure to witness all of these years.

How can the community support your efforts?

Grand Wish seeks individuals, organizations, and corporations to “help those who have helped us.” Donate in honor of a loved one, become a monthly [donor] or a corporate sponsor. GWF needs corporate partners and grant foundations’ financial support.

Volunteers are the backbone of GWF. We currently have opportunities in many areas, including event planning, grant writing, administrative services, wish granting, fundraising, committee involvement, and starting a chapter.

Contact GWF at [email protected] or (404) 590-7GWF. Find them on Facebook: Grand Wish Foundation and Twitter.com/YourGrandWish.
