Wall Street Project Attendees Tell Why They Support Jesse Jackson, What They Learned

Maurice Walker, Urban Independent School District, Dallas:

“My wife and I, run a summer reading program. Advance America was nice enough to sponsor us this past summer in the voluntary program. As a perk for working with them, Advance America invited us up and I took the opportunity to come up.

I try to have my finger on the pulse of what’s going on in urban America. We have a lot of wealth in our community, and if we were able to pool our wealth, we’d be the 16th wealthiest country in the world. That’s reality. But because of our crab-in-the-barrel mentality, we haven’t been able to work together like other communities. As a result, it’s kept us from attaining the success, quite frankly, that we deserve. Hopefully, with some strategies that we heard this week, we can take some of this home and be able to talk to the movers and shakers there and be able to do something that’s going to help us.
