Black Mom Jailed for Abandoning Kids on Sidewalk

Dalisha Adams, 26, has been arrested and charged with child endangerment after her 2- and 3-year-old daughters, each clutching a diaper, were found wandering on the sidewalk of a busy Brooklyn, N.Y., street near their paternal grandmother’s home.

Adams said she dropped the girls off to be cared for by their father’s mother, Bertha Davia, but Davia says she never saw the children.

“They probably ran back out, and she didn’t even look back,” said Davia.

Adams’ 8-year-old daughter told police she watched her mother take the younger girls into the Bayview Houses, where their grandmother lives.

Dalisha, who works as a security guard, describes herself on her Myspace page as a “proud parent,” and neighbors told reporters her children were always well dressed and clean, but the morning the girls were found wandering on Shore Parkway in hooded down coats and Ugg boots, their mother had reportedly been screaming and cursing at them.

According to an unnamed neighbor, Adams was notorious in her Brooklyn building for verbally abusing the toddlers, and she often subjected them to screaming fights with her estranged boyfriend, Shawn Cobbs, 27, the girls’ father, who has been accused of multiple counts of domestic abuse against Adams.

“Usually, I hear her yelling in the morning around 5 a.m.,” the neighbor said. “She’s always yelling at those kids. ‘Shut the f–k up! Get the f–k out of here. One day, I heard her curse out the little baby, ‘I’ll punch you in the f—ing face.’’’

When the girls were found wandering alone, they seemed shaken up and very confused as to why they had been abandoned. The older daughter, who told reporters her name was Domini, said her younger sister was called Dioni and they lived in a blue house with flowers in front of it on 53rd Street.

Domini told a photographer: “Mommy just left us on the sidewalk and drove away.”

Bertha Davia said she believed it was all a misunderstanding and is asking ACS to place the girls in her care. She told reporters she thinks their mother intended to leave the children with her, but added that she is furious that Adams never told her she was bringing the children to her home.

“She left them on the corner here. I live all the way over there. And they was roaming the hallways and all that. Why would she do that to my grandkids? For what reason?”

Police said both children were confirmed to be in good condition.

Of course, their are two or more sides to every story. Continue to read the Adams family’s version of events …
