Navy Fighter Jet Crashes Into Virginia Beach Apartment Complex

A number of Virginia Beach, Va., residents were in a panic today after a Navy fighter jet crashed into a local apartment building. CNN reports that at least two people were hurt when an F/A-18 fighter damaged five residential buildings in the city’s Mayfairs Mew apartment buildings, one of which housed senior citizens.

The jet was said to be from a training squadron at the Naval Air Station Ocean. Two pilots ejected from the jet before it lost control and crashed. A pilot and a person on the ground were treated for injuries but the nature and extent of those injuries has not been released. So far no residents are said to be missing from the complex. Virginia Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Riley told CNN Friday that a search, however, is still ongoing. “We’re going to assume that there are people missing, and we’re going to do a detailed search. It’s going to take a while to get through there to see the details,” he said.
