Dr. Heather Brown Offers 6 Rules to Having Healthy Teeth

Company Name:  Dr. Heather Brown Orthodontics

Years in the business: Nine

Why did you feel that the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation was so important?

After being in practice for nine years, I have had the opportunity to see how straight, healthy teeth can improve a person’s overall well-being. In retrospect, I have also seen how misaligned teeth and poor dental health can have a negative impact on a person, causing them to have low self-esteem and low self-confidence. The Smile for a Lifetime national organization provides orthodontic care and free braces to adolescents who have orthodontic needs, but are financially unable to afford treatment. Unfortunately, the youth in the Houston area have not had the opportunity to receive such services, due to the absence of a local chapter.

How can someone apply to be a Smile for a Lifetime candidate?

Applicants between the ages of 10 and 18 who are in need of orthodontic treatment and financial support are encouraged to apply by going directly to our website to print out an application or call the Dr. Heather Brown Orthodontics offices.

What are the top six rules to having healthy teeth?

Brush your teeth after every meal or at least three times a day.

Floss your teeth daily.

Visit your dentist regularly, at least twice a year.

Eat a well balanced meal and drink plenty of water.

Avoid excessive consumption of sugary foods and acidic beverages.

Avoid smoking, tobacco chewing and alcohol consumption.

Why is it so important to incorporate dental visits into your yearly budget?

As the old saying goes “be good to your teeth, and your teeth will be good to you.” Your teeth are an essential part of your body. Neglect of proper care of your teeth can affect your overall health.  Prevention is better than cure!  You should visit your dentist preferably every six months.  During such check-ups your dentist will be able to detect any small problems before they have a chance to develop into something serious.
