Can’t we all just get along? Apparently, that’s a “no” if you’re Madonna or Lady Gaga. The iconic “Material Girl” already swung at Gaga earlier this year for sampling her sound, but now Madonna may be further unleashing her wrath on Gaga when her MDNA tour begins on Thursday, in Israel.
New rehearsal footage of Madonna preparing for her show in Tel Aviv shows her singing a mash-up of her hit “Express Yourself” and Gaga’s “Born This Way” and adding a few lines from her Hard Candy track “She’s Not Me,” a song about shaming woman who wants to be like Madge.
Trouble between the two began brewing last year when Gaga released her No. 1 hit “Born This Way,” which bears a striking resemblance to Madonna’s “Express Yourself.” Gaga acknowledged that it was a nod to Madonna and even paid homage to the icon in the song’s video.
Though some fans were outraged by the songs’ similarities, Gaga told Jay Leno that Madonna’s camp reached out to her and told her that Madonna approved of the song (though Madge’s camp later denied that).
All seemed well until February, when ABC News asked Madonna how she felt about the the comparisons between the songs and she called Lady Gaga “reductive.”
Though things quickly quieted down after Madonna’s comment (Gaga never responded), things stand to heat up between the two now that Madonna plans to take such a public swipe at Gaga.
Fans will have to wait and see if Madonna does include the swipe in her show, but if she does, she won’t be the first veteran artist to feud with a new star.
