Gifford Flubs Big Time On-Air

A famed “Today” show host had a beyond awkward moment this week when she accidentally asked a guest about his deceased spouse. Kathie Lee Gifford was live on May 30 alongside her co-host Hoda Kotb interviewing comedian Martin Short. Obviously feeling comfortable with Short, Gifford asked him about his loving wife Nancy and dubbed their relationship “one of the greatest” in Hollywood. “You and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business,” said Gifford. “How many years now for you guys now?” Short, 62, calmly replied, “Thirty-six years” before adding that they’re “madly in love” because he’s “cute.”

Unfortunately for Gifford and her poor memory, Short’s wife passed away in 2010 after a bout with cancer. The interview could’ve taken a turn for the worse but Short graciously played along to save the host from embarrassment.

Although Gifford has since apologized, this is far from the first time she’s had an embarrassing moment on live television. Check out a few of Kathie Lee’s other cringe-worthy gaffes below. –danielle canada
