Obama Lands Essence Cover

With the 2012 election looming just months away, President Obama’s appearance schedule is going into high gear. Obama, 50, appears on the cover of Essence‘s July issue. In it, he discusses his plans to improve the economy and better the future of the U.S.

Additionally, Obama speaks to Essence about his plans for a second term in office, noting that the changes he plans to implement won’t happen overnight.

“I’ve always approached my presidency as a long-term proposition. I didn’t run for office just to clean up the mess I inherited,” said Obama.” I didn’t run for office just to return to the status quo. Understanding that some of the things I get done, we may not see the benefits from them for ten years. But that’s how change happens.”

In addition to a feature on the president, the July issue of Essence includes a special message to the military from the first lady. The Obamas’ Essence issue hits newsstands June 12.
