‘Scandal’ Creator Shonda Rhimes Blasts ‘Bunheads’ Show About Diversity

ABC's "Bunheads"

Shonda Rhimes, the creator and producer of the blockbuster prime-time TV shows “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” as well as “Private Practice,” slammed ABC’s “Bunheads” for it’s lack of diversity.

The show premiered on Monday and comes from “Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, tells the story of a Las Vegas showgirl (Sutton Foster), who moves to a quiet town and becomes an instructor at the dance school her new mother-in-law (Kelly Bishop) owns.

“Hey @abcfbunheads: really? You couldn’t cast even ONE young dancer of color so I could feel good about my kid watching this show? NOT ONE?”

Rhimes, the Hollywood powerbroker who also writes for her shows, is a new mother to Emerson and also has 10-year-old Harper. After some sharp responses came back her way, Rhimes attempted to clarify her original tweet.

@sassylassee @abcfbunheads I def don’t feel bad when my kid watches white performers. Not at all what I’m saying.

Shonda Rhimes "Scandal", starring Kerry Washington, is another certified TV juggernaut

The TV producer then went on to clarify that she was a fan of Sherman-Palladino’s “Gilmore Girls,” but is just taking up “one issue” with “Bunheads.”

@kwanfan1212 I did love seeing girls of all shapes and sizes. That was great.Am a huge Gilmore Girls fan.Just pointing out one issue…

Have you seen the show? And do you believe that Rhimes has a legitimate complaint?
