Arthur Ashe: He pulled off one of the most improbable upsets in sports history when the tennis champion beat the overwhelming favorite Jimmie Conners at Wimbledon in 1975. A beloved humanitarian and quiet activist, Ashe contracted AIDS from a blood transfusion and died in 1993.
