The Root of you is one of the most popular salons in Houston. From its local celebrity clientele to the monthly mixers and in store events The Root of You is the place to go when you are in the know and looking for a natural style that can go from the boardroom to a night out with the girls.

I would love to know what was the criteria for selecting these five locations!

I would to because honestly none of the listed salons cater to all the various types of styles that women 20-35 look to achieve. Additionally, when you do a random web search of let’s say “silk press Houston” vs. cities like Dallas, Chi-town, or Atlanta the results for Houston are pretty sad, especially for a city w/ about the same amount of blacks as Dallas.

Fun, thanks for sharing! This reminds me of how much I love natural hair salons in Charlotte NC. I haven’t been for a while. I’m growing my hair out and have been for the last year. I am planning on getting dreads and have to be patient until it is long enough for them. :) I’m really excited!

These are great salons but I have been getting my hair done at Salon Park Meyerland for years and have never found anyplace better! They have SIXTY beauty professionals there that specialize in black hair care. LOVE IT! Check them out at

      Which stylist does your hair?

      • Joy Washington

So sorry, I didn’t realize someone asked me a question here. My stylist at Salon Meyerland isn’t taking new clients right now because she is booked out solid with standing weekly appointments. I am lucky to be one of them. Yay me because she is the best!!! I asked her if I could post her name here and she rather I didn’t because she has a waiting list already. She did say that all the other stylist are top notch and that you really can’t go wrong with any of them as long as you do your due diligence and have a consultation with them before making an appointment. You might just want to talk to the owner of the salon, he will try to make a good match for you – that is what he did for me and I have never regretted my choice. His name, I think is Bonner.
