The 8th Annual National Black Pre-Law Conference and Law Fair 2012 welcomed law students from all over the U.S. to Houston, on Friday, Nov. at the Westin Hotel in the Galleria.  An opening ceremony presented by keynote speakers; Carla Pratt, Esq. Professor of Law and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law and Sherry D. Williams, Esq., Vice President and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Halliburton Houston set the conference in  motion in which each  of the  illustrious speaker addressed the future lawyers. They shared their personal triumphs and setbacks in the law profession and the importance of staying committed to pursuing their respective fields.


Breakout sessions and workshops such as a; mock law school admission and preparation clinic, resume and addendum practical assistance and two free hours of free continuing legal education CLE credit were offered for conference attendees looking to gain more information and further their law education.  After wrapping up the workshops students were allowed to let loose and close out the evening at the Networking Social Hour cocktail mixer sponsored by the Houston Lawyers Association.


Saturday morning begin with an introduction of Leonard M. Baynes Esq., Professor of Law and Director of the Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development at New York’s St. John’s University who opened the floor for a dynamic audience and panel discussion with the leading African Americans who have earned acceptance to the most selective top fourteen law schools in America. Each speaker received questions from the audience and shared how they made themselves competitive applicants to garner attention from their review boards. Concurrent workshops, sessions and panel discussions successfully continued throughout the day leading up to the Legacy Builders Aspiring Lawyers Pinning Ceremony and Awards Banquet.

Fox 26 News Reporter Isiah Carey served as Master of Ceremonies and welcomed keynote speakers; Executive Director and General Counsel, Congressional Black Caucus; Angela Rye Esq., and Director, Compliance and Social Responsibility, Global Procurement Hewlett- Packard Company; Brian Tippens, J.D. Following the keynote addresses where the Legacy award Presentations with Executive Director Emeritus, National Bar Association; John Crump, Esq., and National Executive Director of the National African American Drug Policy Coalition, Inc; The Honorable Arthur L. Burnett, Sr., Esq., receiving the Legacy Builder Legends Awards.
