Nas' tour profits being garnished to pay Georgia tax debts

We know Nas says that “Life is Good,” but we have a sinking feeling that his life is sometimes far from that, especially as news travels that the state of Georgia is now garnishing Nas’ tour profits to pay for his gargantuan tax debts.

According to TMZ, the Georgia Department of Revenue claims that the emcee owes $1,083,435 in back taxes from 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010. The GDR is now targeting Nas’ “Life is Good/Black Rage” tour with Lauryn Hill and has now obtained an order commanding Live Nation, who are promoting the tour, to garnish Nas’ wages until all his debt is paid off.

A rep for Nas says that his team recently settled the case with GDR, but the GDR claims that the case is still open and that they are trying to collect from Nas.

Nas’ new GDR problem is just the latest in a string of financial issues for the rapper. Earlier this year, the GDR obtained permission to garnish his royalty checks of pay off the $6 million debt he owes the federal government in back taxes. And just last month, Nas lost his Georgia home to foreclosure.

Hopefully, Nas’ tour, which is underway, will generate massive sales and finally pull him out of debt with the government. Unfortunately, he’s not the only star with debt troubles. Check out some other stars in financial binds below. – nicholas robinson
