New York City is known for tastemakers and trendsetters, and the 2012 Rolling Out NYC Mirror Mirror Awards celebrated some of the most remarkable individuals in entertainment and glamour. Sponsored by Colgate Optic White and hosted by television star Toya Wright and model Tyson Beckford, the soiree kicked off with a heartfelt performance by one of the 2012 honorees, Roc Nation starlet Bridget Kelly, who performed a stirring rendition of Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin’ About You,” along with her own single, “Special Delivery.”
Stunning model Sessilee Lopez, former “Basketball Wives” star Jennifer Williams, hip-hop photographer Johnny Nunez, Chef Roblé Al,i and founder of style site FashionBombDaily.com Claire Sulmers, rounded out the list of distinguished honorees. Each was lauded for their accomplishments, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence in their respective fields.
“I went from poppin’ bottles, to warming bottles,” Nunez joked as he accepted his award and thanked his wife and young children for his growth, both in his craft and as a man. Kelly thanked her mother, who was in attendance, and gushed, “This is actually my very first award!”
Held at the beautiful Union Square Ballroom, and sporting a special Optic White Beauty Lounge that offered mini-makeovers, the 2012 Mirror Mirror Awards was indeed a night for basking in the Big Apple’s rich well-spring of African American achievement. As rolling out publisher Munson Steed reminded everyone in attendance, the night was “about showcasing love and our greatness.”
Thankfully, there was plenty of both.
