Kerry Washington broke ground on a path that African Americans hadn’t walked in years when she made her debut as the lead actress in the instant hit drama, “Scandal,” last season. And now that the door has been opened again for black actors to carry dramatic shows, Meagan Good has joined Washington in prime time TV land as the star of NBC’s “Deception.” And the stars of the two shows couldn’t be happier for each other.
“I’m sooooo happy for @MeaganGood and EXCITED for her new show #Deception – LOVE the billboards! Congrats Beautiful XO,” Washington tweeted before the Jan. 7 series premiere. “EXCITED for @meagangood tonight!!!! Sending hugs and prayers your way #DECEPTION.”
Good was happy to receive such praise from Washington and immediately returned the favor.
“Wow . Thank you so much … God is good,” Meagan replied. “That means a lot to me God bless you and your show is awesome!!! I’m blown away @ the grace of God.”
“Freaking @kerrywashington tweeted me her support/love–I so respect&admire her. Just means a lot [email protected] Godbless you too!!!!! … And thank you again,” Good added excitedly.
And Twitter wasn’t the only placed where Good has praised Washington.
“I think [Kerry] is so beautiful and so talented as an actress,” said Good to The Wall Street Journal. “I love everything that she does. For me it was like wow—I was really thankful that she reached out, and was offering her support and just showing love.”
“She had told me before that she had seen me in Brick and had sent me a message I didn’t get,” Meagan also revealed. “When I saw her in person, she told me she supported me and wanted me to do well. I’m in awe because I think she’s fantastic.”
It’s great to see two black actresses not only making strides in prime time TV, but also commending and supporting each other on their paths to success. Below we pay tribute to some other black actresses who’vw paved the way for these young black stars on TV. Check them out after the cut.
