'Identity Thief' movie review

Stars: Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, T.I.

Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy star in Tinseltown’s latest buddy flick. Well, if your “buddy” was an identity-stealing felon that you dragged halfway across the country to answer for her lawbreaking ways. Sandy Patterson (Bateman) has carved out a nice quiet life for himself in Denver. He has all of the trapping of middle-class life and he’s relatively happy until an identity thief in Miami named Diana (McCarthy) wreaks financial havoc on his life. Well, Sandy isn’t about to wait for the cops to put the cuffs on the miscreant. He finds out who she is, where she is, and takes off for sunny Florida. Let’s just say Diana is not a willing participant in Sandy’s quest to see justice done. Bateman’s righteous indignation may be predictable, but he’s the perfect straight man to McCarthy’s pratfalls and quirks. –p.d. lee
