Throughout history, African Americans have invented important, useful and fun devices. From Lewis Howard Latimer to Madame C.J. Walker, blacks have made a large number of contributions to  American culture.  Many modern conveniences and necessities are a derivative of, or the inventions of black inventors: blood banks, the refrigerator, the electric trolley, the dust pan, comb, mop, brush, clothes dryer, refrigerator, lawn mower, traffic signal, the pen and the pencil sharpener just to name a few.
