Released just after the fiery-haired singer broke through with her confrontational hit single “Caught Out There,” this often-overlooked debut was not only the first full-length from Kelis, but it also was one of the first major releases from the Neptunes. The production teams’ signature sound is all over the project, providing a quirky and futuristic backdrop to the singer’s sensual–and yes, sometimes angry–vocals.
