UPDATE: Federal investigators from the U.S. Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Investigation), The Department of the Treasury (the Secret Service) and local Stamford police officers told the media that Miriam Carey was suffering from schizophrenia and was deluded into thinking that President Obama was personally stalking her. She was on various types of medication which have varying side affects. This helps to unearth a possible motive in her quest to scale the White House barriers and possibly confront Obama.

Federal law enforcement officers have confirmed the identity of the mother shot by police outside the Capitol building on Thursday as Mariam Carey of Stamford, Conn.

The feds report that the 34-year-old dental hygienist tried to breach White House barriers and led Capitol Hill Police on a high-speed chase that ended with her being shot multiple times and killed.

Carey was shot by several officers. According to a law enforcement official, she was not armed, and it was not known whether she presented an immediate danger, stated the New York Times.

ABC News reported that Carey suffered from mental health issues and most particularly post-partum depression.

Carey’s former employer, Dr. Barry J. Weiss, told the New York Times that he and his partner fired Carey from their periodontics practice last year and cited her “temper” but would not go into detail.

Carey’s sister told the Washington Post that he could not believe her sister would do such a thing. “That’s impossible. She works, she holds a job.”

“I’m pretty confident this was not an accident,” said District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier. Still, Capitol Police said there appeared to be no terrorist link.mariam carey5

“This appears to be an isolated, singular matter, with, at this point, no nexus to terrorism,” confirmed Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine, according to the Associated Press.

The pursuit began when the car sped onto a driveway leading to the White House, over a set of lowered barricades. When the driver couldn’t get through a second barrier, she spun the car in the opposite direction, flipping a Secret Service officer over the hood of the car as she sped away, said B.J. Campbell, a tourist from Portland, Ore., the AP reported.

Then the chase began.

“The car was trying to get away. But it was going over the median and over the curb,” the AP reports that Matthew Coursen said. Coursen was watching from a cab window when the black Infiniti sped by him. “The car got boxed in and that’s when I saw an officer of some kind draw his weapon and fire shots into the car.”

Police shot and killed Carey just outside the Hart Senate Office Building, where many senators have their offices. Dine said an officer took the child from the car to a hospital.
