Kanye West has reportedly sanctioned a White Frenchman using the N-word to sell clothes. According to Style.com, Jean Touitou of A.P.C. thought it was OK to use the derogatory term in his new collection.

During a presentation of his new line, Touitou said that he was inspired to name his collection “Last N—-s in Paris” because it was a mix of “the ghetto” and the movie, Last Tango in Paris. He said the N-word was a play on Jay Z and Kanye West’s hit, “N—-s in Paris.” He went on to say that he is friends with West and that he showed him the line. Touitou said that West approved by saying, “I like this vibe.”

However, Touitou appears to either be completely ignorant, or he’s purposely using an unsavory aspect of Black culture to gain income. He should also know that West’s approval does not give him the right to disrespect an entire race in the name of style.

But this can happen when Black culture is presented without context. On “N—-s in Paris,” Jay Z and West had an opportunity to use the phrase to about more important issues that deal with race and how it relates from an international standpoint. But it’s basically a party record that happened to be recorded in Paris. Jay Z and West are having fun while using the word, and clueless Europeans like Touitou may think that it’s OK to do the same.

West has yet to give his take on why he approved of Touitou using the N-word to sell clothes.
