Another unarmed Black man has been shot and killed by police. This time, the shooting occurred in Baltimore County as the surrounding area continues to recover from the fallout over Freddie Gray’s death.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore County police officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in Owing Mills. When police arrived, they reported hearing screams inside of the home. The three police approached Spencer Lee McCain, 41, and said that he was in a “defensive” position. Without asking questions, the officers shot at McCain 19 times. He was hit by several bullets. Police eventually discovered that McCain was unarmed. McCain was rushed to a nearby emergency room, but he died on June 25.

There was a history of a domestic violence at the home, as police had been called to handle disputes on 17 other occasions. Police said the woman involved, Shannon Sulton, had swollen eyes and cuts on both sides of her mouth; however, she declined medical treatment. Sulton and McCain have three children together, but she filed a protective order against McCain in October.

The case is currently being reviewed by homicide detectives. The names of the officers involved in the shooting have not been revealed by police.
