Idris Elba boards ‘Enterprise’ as official cast member of ‘Star Trek Beyond’

Idris Elba boards the Enterprise. According to director Justin Lin, the third installment of Stark Trek is slated for next summer — and now, just about a year before its premiere, the franchise has revealed the first image from the set, its title and the cast.

In June, the brains behind the Fast & Furious franchise tweeted, “Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! #StarTrekBeyond #LLAP,” revealing that Kirk and Spock’s next voyage will be called Star Trek Beyond. The title also implies that the franchise’s next entry may focus more on exploration rather than character origin stories like Abrams’ first Star Trek film or Into Darkness.


Now, the official cast has been announced, which incldues British invasion Idris Elba, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho.

Although very little is known about Elba’s upcoming role, this isn’t the first big screen syfy he’s starred in. The 42-year-old actor has been featured in Marvel’s mega-hit Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Prometheus, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance alongside Nicholas Cage.


Elba is also known for portraying South African President Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Takers, No Good Deed, Obsessed, Daddy’s Little Girls and television series like “Luther”, “The Wire,” and “Ultraviolet.”

In the spring of 2014, Elba became the proud father of a bouncing baby boy, Winston. “My Son Winston Elba was born yesterday..Truly Amazing :-),” Elba tweeted on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Little Winston was the second child for Elba, who has an 11-year-old daughter, Isan, with ex-wife Dormowa Sherma.

As for Elba’s next flick, Star Trek Beyond is expected to hit the big screen on July 8, 2016. Will you be watching?!
