Old School R&B is winning

As summer comes to a close, fans of Atlanta-bred artists were treated to an evening of 90’s era R&B and hip-hop music when performers Jagged Edge, 112, Silk, Kilo and Pastor Troy performed to a sold out crowd at Wolf Creek Amphitheater as part of the Affordable Old School Concert Series. Comedian Ronnie Jordan was the host.

Pastor Troy opened the show just like a DSGB should, getting the crowd turnt up. The Down South Georgia Boy clique leader performed his hits ranging from “No Mo Play in GA,” “Vice Versa” and “We Ready.”

Following Jordan’s introduction, it was only fitting that Kilo made his grand entrance like a heavyweight boxing champion. Jordan pointed out that many of today’s rappers all use a lot of Kilo’s style, swag and wordplay. Kilo performed hits “Cocaine,” “Baaby Baby,” “Show Me Love” and “Nasty Dancer.”

Decatur, Georgia’s best R&B group, Silk, performed their hits –”Freak Me,””Meeting in My Bedroom” and more – and promised a new album. Shout out to “Lil G” who showed love backstage.

112 helped the audience transition to the new millennium performing their hits, “Peaches & Cream,” “Cupid,” keeping things nice and slow. Their tribute to fellow Bad Boy label mate, the Notorious B.I.G., kicked their performance in high gear.

Closing the show, Jagged Edge gave fans a rhythmic roundup of  many of their new hits and a taste of their “Let’s Get Married,” “Put A Little Umph In It” and “Where The Party At.” Happy-belated birthday to Ricard Wingo who just celebrated his 40th birthday.

One last thing, this writer didn’t get the memo it was wear your favorite team paraphernalia night as artists graced the stage decked out in Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs gear.

The evening was presented by McDonald’s who held an Apollo Theater-style competition where a fan won $10,000 cash as part of the McDonald’s Presents The Gift 10th Anniversary.
