Whether it’s the NFL, NBA or MLB, everyone seems to be playing fantasy sports. One of the newest players in the world of fantasy sports Is Draftpot.com, whose founders have a unique story. Rolling out spoke exclusively with Joey Levy, co-founder and CEO of Draftpot, about the company’s inception.

“I actually came up with the idea for Draftpot after my uncle gave me a call after using one of our competitor’s sites. He called me because he needed directions for how to use their site,” Levy says.

That is when Levy’s epiphany came.

“I realized that this particular competitor as well as one of our other competitors are spending tens of millions of dollars a quarter on marketing, yet there [were] casual sports fans, everyday fans [who were] going to their sites and not understanding how to use it,” he says. And with that, Draftpot, the user-friendly website that appeals to casual and hard-core gamers alike, was born.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Draftpot is it was launched by students at Columbia University. “We’re all undergrads at Columbia,” the 20-year old Levy said of himself and his co-founders.

What makes the company special? Draftpot offers the widest variety of sports in Daily Fantasy Sports, including eSports, making it the first DFS platform to host contests for both traditional sports and eSports on the same platform.

Though young in the market, Draftpot has been very successful, growing its user-base by over 20 percent each week since the NFL season started. The company will pay out over $250,000 for week three of NFL play, which started with the Washington Redskins and New York Giants game on Thursday, Sept. 25.
