In spite of their former manager Jerry Heller’s recent lawsuit against its producers, the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton continues to break records as it embarks on its international run.

Having totaled a stateside gross of $161 million, and an international gross thus far of $39 million, the film is now officially in the $200 million club.

And the kudos and records for Compton don’t stop there.

Upon its August opening, contrary to the predicted modest start most industry experts believed it would have, Compton opened to $56 million dollars to rank as the highest opening ever for an R-rated movie in August. After remaining atop the box office for almost a month, the story of five guys from Compton officially became the highest-grossing music biopic in history as it surpassed the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk The Line. Additionally, directed by F. Gary Gray,  the movie became the highest grossing film by a Black director in history.

With award season around the corner and the masses waiting with baited breath to see if Compton gets the nods many believe it deserves, the film is still making its way through foreign territories with impending premieres in countries such as Russia and Spain.
