Von Miller and the Denver Broncos’ defense dismantled the Carolina Panthers offense in Super Bowl 50. In one of the greatest  defensive performances in Super Bowl history, Miller created havoc for Cam Newton from the very beginning.

In the first quarter, Miller hit Newton and ripped the ball out of his hands in what eventually led to the game’s first touchdown. Miller and Broncos defensive end, Demarcus Ware, continued to harass Newton and prevented the MVP from developing a rhythm. Newton never got a chance to put together the consistency on offense that became a trademark during the Panthers’ successful 2015 campaign.

Although the Broncos were dominate on defense, Newton and the Panthers had an opportunity to take the lead after trailing 16-10 in the fourth quarter. However, Miller caused another fumble after hitting Newton. It appeared as if Newton had an opportunity to recover the fumble, but Newton looked at the ball as the Broncos recovered.  The Broncos eventually scored another touchdown to seal the Super Bowl victory.

Miller was drafted out of Texas A&M and was selected one pick behind Newton. Since being drafted in 2011, Miler has compiled 60 sacks. He will be a free agent in the spring, but he will likely re-sign with the Broncos to become one of the highest paid defenders in the NFL.
