In case you missed it, on Friday, Feb. 5, the 47th NAACP Image Awards took place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Among the larger than life stars to grace the red carpet, were Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Despite recent blow back from the #OscarSoWhite controversy, the dynamic duo showcased their Black love hand in hand as they entered the ceremony honoring outstanding people of color in films, music, books and television shows.

While it may not seem like much, the long time couple’s appearance highlight’s the power of Black love. If you ask us, Will and Jada are the epitome of ‘when two or more gather’ who can stand against us?!

Even host Anthony Anderson took notice of the A-lister’s attendance. “Look at all these beautiful shades of people in the audience. Hollywood needs to know that this is what diversity is supposed to look like, right?” he said joking. “Will and Jada in our audience tonight. Hell, they better be here after all this ish they started.”

Needless to say, the couple’s presence at the 2016 NAACP Image Awards proudly and powerfully marked their joint stand against the lack of diversity facing African-Americans in Hollywood today. Of course, the couple is not short on controversy themselves. The power couple has been plagued by rumors of infidelity, allegedly neglecting their children, and having an open marriage: all rumors that have been denounced by the Smiths’ consistent and undeniable unity, respect and love for each other, as displayed at this year’s ceremony.

Take away: Will and Jada’s testament of love is proof that the power of Black love is alive and well. When two or more stand together (in love), no one can stand against us. The couple who met on the set of the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” wed in 1997. They share two beautiful and talented children, Willow and Jaden Smith.
