The effects of Donald Trump’s bigotry is becoming more evident each day. According to the Boston Globe, two racist brothers from Boston were inspired by Trump to beat a man who they believed was an illegal immigrant.

The incident occurred months ago when Trump began his presidential campaign by spewing racism and bigotry. Scott and Steven Leader were walking near a train station near downtown Boston and encountered a man who was homeless and Latino. While the homeless man was on the ground sleeping, the Leader brothers urinated on the man. They soon began to kick, punch and beat him with a metal pole and called him a “wetback.” After the beating, the brothers said, “Donald Trump was right, all these illegals need to be deported.”

When the bothers were arrested, they said, “police only arrest white men and never the minorities.”  Scott Leader had a history of hate crimes before the incident. After the 9/11 attacks, he verbally abused a Middle Eastern man and harassed a group of Asian-Americans in 2005.

The Leader brothers are racist Bostonians, but Trump should also be investigated for how his hate speech continues to provoke crime. While running for president, Trump has told his supporters to attack protestors; he has called for a ban on Muslims entering the country; he tweeted a false meme that suggested Blacks are the number 1 killer of White people; and he wants to build a large wall to prevent hispanics from entering the United States illegally. Several fights and riots have broken out at Trump events across the country.

When Trump was asked about the Leader brothers being inspired to attack the homeless man, he responded by saying, “It would be a shame. I will say that people who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again.”

The Leader brothers plead guilty to assault and battery, intimidation, and civil rights violations. Scott was sentenced to three years in prison and Steven was sentenced to two years in prison.
