It looks like this summer continues to drive people “crazy with the heat,” as old folks used to say, with the sweltering heat serving as a backdrop for civil strife reminiscent of Spike Lee’s movie Do the Right Thing.

The family of a Brooklyn, New York, man shot dead by an off-duty cop during a road-rage incident declared they will “hunt him down” themselves if the officer is not charged in the killing.

“We will seek our justice. This is war. I’m from Brooklyn. This is our neighborhood. So if I’m going to find him, he’s going to get what he deserves. … If this hits trial and I have to pull up with my homies and we beat his a–, then I’m with that, too. We want to be able to trust the NYPD. [Small] didn’t deserve to die like that. He didn’t deserve to be shot in front of his family.’’ said Zoe Dempsey, the 23-year-old niece of slain dad Delrawn Small.

Small was killed by Officer Wayne Isaacs as he pummeled the cop through the officer’s car window just after midnight Monday, cops said.

Small, 37, had a long rap sheet listing 19 arrests, sources said.

Meanwhile, a television reporter became a crime victim while covering the story.

Kena Johnson, known as Kena Vernon on-air, was reportedly sitting in her station’s news van when a female robber approached the passenger side door. The suspect opened the van door and let a dog loose inside the vehicle before grabbing the reporter’s bag from the seat.

The two women reportedly fought over the purse, and the victim prevailed, as the thief only made off with Vernon’s identification.

Cops, who were nearby investigating the shooting, arrested Linda Sanchez, 31, charging her with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. She also reportedly had 4-inch knife in her possession.

Sanchez has seven prior arrests, according to police sources.

The reporter/victim declined to comment on the situation.
