The Ford Fusion may appeal to a broader spectrum of drivers than any other midsize sedan on the market, and this holiday buying season will likely find plenty of interest in the 2017 model. Ford made a few smart improvements to make driving the 2017 Fusion an even more pleasant experience.

2017 FORD FUSION EXTERIOR
Three distinct grille designs distinguish Fusion family members, with a fashionable shiny black mesh pattern adorning the Fusion Sport, a bright chrome mesh finish decorating the new Fusion Platinum, and a five-bar grille jazzing up the Fusion Titanium. While the hood and front fender sheet metal are unchanged, LED headlights now are standard or optional.

2017 FORD FUSION INTERIOR
The center stack and console have been redesigned to make the interior feel airy and open. A dial-type transmission controller is well placed and easy to use, replacing the traditional console-mounted lever. The cleaner layout creates a spot for both the standard electric parking brake and push-button start while opening more storage space. Also, a standard acoustic windshield, along with acoustic side glass standard in models with leather make the interior more serene. An Active Noise Control feature is also available.

Ford’s connectivity feature has received criticism in the past, but it seems to have led to significant improvements in the latest version, Sync 3, offering a highly intuitive layout, an easy-to-read screen, and Siri Eyes Free integration for safely controlling one’s phone while driving. The Sync Connect option allows a smartphone to lock and unlock the car, start the car remotely or set up a schedule of when the car should start. It can also indicate where the car is in a parking lot, and provide current vehicle stats like tire pressure and how much gas is left in the tank.

2017 FORD FUSION ENGINE
The choice of engines available in the 2017 Fusion has increased to six – including a 2.5-liter inline-4; a decent 181-horsepower, 1.5-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder; an engaging 240-horsepower, 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder; the Fusion Hybrid; the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, and a 325-horsepower, 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost in the Fusion Sport — offering an excellent range of power and efficiency combinations.

EXPECTATIONS
The Fusion is a multifaceted great-looking family sedan that does everything it should do — delivering performance and refinement that defy its economy-car price.
