New details are emerging about Kanye West’s apparent state of mind prior to his hospitalization.

The “Faded” rapper was admitted to UCLA Medical Center last week after what one source described was “a mental breakdown,” and another attributed to “sleep deprivation and exhaustion.”

Meanwhile, another source suggested that West suffered from severe “severe paranoia” and “hallucinations” brought on by a “lack of sleep” due to an intense workload, in addition to stress over wife Kim Kardashian West’s armed robbery in Paris just weeks ago. “He pushed himself too much,” a source tells ET. “The Paris incident unsettled everyone, [but it] unsettled him the most. He had this anxiety that everyone around him was trying to get him.”

“He had severe paranoia. It was over nothing that was tangible or real,” the source continued. “He was thinking that people were out to kill him, out to break him and Kim up. It was Kanye vs. the whole world.”

Now, reports indicate that the real trigger for West’s erratic behavior was the anniversary of his mother, Donda’s death. As you may recall, the musician’s beloved mom died in November 2007. As previously reported, West canceled his concert at the L.A. Forum just hours before he was to hit the stage on Nov. 20, which just so happens to have marked the date of the late matriarch’s funeral. The following day, West canceled the remainder of his tour and went to UCLA Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation, where’s he’s remained since.

Sources close to West tell TMZ, “He never effectively grieved over his mom’s death and has always had a difficult time in November, but this time he reached the breaking point.” Adding that they saw warning signs including, “trouble handling stress over the last few months” prior to him unraveling just a week ago.

Though West was hopeful for a release two days ago, it was a no-go. The 39-year-old rapper remains hospitalized and has yet to receive a diagnosis.
