Let me guess … your life is nothing like you imagined it would be 10 years ago. If your 18-year-old self saw you running on the hamster wheel you are on, would they cry? Stop chasing dreams of money and success so long and hard that you forget why you’re running!

It’s time to jump into the driver’s seat and put that cape on. We all have a purpose, or as I like to call it, a superpower. I’m not talking daily responsibilities or a job description; this is something that regardless of where you are and who you are with, it’s where your passion lies. We all have gifts and unique qualities to offer the world that give us purpose. Discovering what you possess that no one else does can be quite a slippery slope. Instead of cultivating our gifts, we look at what others have, or claim to have, and wonder why we are so far behind.

Don’t compare your Chapter 2 to someone else’s Chapter 22.

You don’t know what they had to endure to get where they are. But, if they are operating in their superpower, let them! In today’s age of social media, trust everything that glitters is certainly not gold. People only project filtered images of what they want you to see and believe. Then you get down on yourself for the station of life you are in when in reality, the very people you objectify could be just as confused, unhappy and feeling as stuck as you. Comparing your triumphs and failures will only take away the gratitude of what you have accomplished.

Enough about those other folks, let’s focus on your superpower. Here’s to you finding you! Discover who you really are, what you love, who means the most to you, along with what you are passionate about. Life is too short not to be fulfilled. After all, isn’t the goal to be happy while we are alive?

Grab a sheet of paper and get comfortable. You want to be in a place where your thoughts are free to flow and you can rest in a good head space. The goal is to be calm enough to gain a sense of clarity. Answer these questions:

  1. What makes you feel great about yourself?
  2. What activities, hobbies, projects and people make you smile?
  3. What are you good at naturally?
  4. What do people ask you to help them with?
  5. If you had to teach something, what would it be?
  6. What do you miss doing, being or having in your life?
  7. At 80-years-old, reflecting on your life, what are the things you are proud to have done? What is missing?
  8. What do you want to do?
  9. Who do you want to help?
  10. What do you want to create?

Discovering your purpose lies within the answers to these questions. Your superpower will be staring you in the face.
