Nicole Nemiroff is not daunted by the competition in Atlanta’s beauty industry. When she left Pittsburgh in 2011, she was determined to “make her mark as a licensed esthetician.” While she is skilled in procedures that range from laser hair removal to cellulite reduction, she found her niche and passion doing eyebrows, specializing in luxury wax services, skin care, and soon microblading.

The millennial Nemiroff, 26, proves anything is possible with persistence and discipline. She acquired her own salon in 2016 and has serviced over 3,000 clients since she opened her doors. And there are plans to expand.

Here’s our conversation with the proud owner of Nicole’s Beauty Lounge ATL.

What is your day-to-day like at work?
A typical day at Nicole’s Beauty Lounge ATL is very fast paced. Each morning I arrive about an hour or more before opening to make sure that I have all my materials, making sure my space is clean, and my wax is ready. On average, I work on at least 20-25 people a day, mostly doing my wax and tint service that lasts between 20 to 30 minutes per person. My workdays are consistent and because it is just me, I love the challenge.

What inspires you to show up at work every day?
My clients inspire me to show up to my shop each day. Most of my clients have been with me since I began my journey here in Atlanta and I feel like I can never let them down because of their support. Each day that I work, I think about my goals and know that the more diligently I work to achieve them, the more assurance that I have that they will be accomplished. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

How did you determine your career path?
Years after trying traditional colleges, I decided to pursue beauty school and thought it would be fun. Naturally, I have always had a love for the beauty industry growing up and enjoyed trying different beauty techniques on my family and friends. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made and became such a fulfilling and lucrative career. I am a licensed esthetician and love promoting healthy beauty techniques and systems.

What industries connect to your career choice?
I think that the lifestyle and entertainment industry connect to my career choice. Atlanta is leading in cutting-edge beauty techniques, especially with the influence of social media. It is very important for me to keep up with the latest beauty trends and social media and members of the entertainment industry help me to do that.

Describe the skills that will be essential to future business leader and innovators.
For future business leaders and innovators, I think that faith and consistency are very essential. Always have confidence in yourself and know that anything is possible when you put God first. Always be honest about what you can offer someone, stay dedicated, and determined to beat the odds!

Community success based on what you do in the community means what to you?
Based on what I do for the community, I would say giving the women of Atlanta confidence. I take pride in motivating women and help[ing] to build the self-esteem [of] girls of all ages to always have self-love. The world we live in can be very hard on women because of the stereotypes that are displayed on social media and what we see on television. My goal is to put a smile on the faces of others and when they leave my shop they know that they are gorgeous. The best thing a person can give another is a smile and love. I am looking to become involved in the community specifically with initiatives that assist girls in marginalized communities with tools to become successful members of the community.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
If I could change anything about the world it would be by eliminating wars and hatred and replacing it with kindness and more open-minded people. A lot of people are focused on power instead of the well-being of others. There are so many people in the world that struggle in many ways. I just wish we could transfer our focus toward peace.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
One thing that I would change would be my patience. I can get ahead of myself at times because I want to accomplish my goals so fast. I simply must learn to take things day by day to stay as stress-free as possible.

Describe innovative methods you apply to your business and life.
Most of the innovative methods that I apply to my life and business involve the beauty industry. I am always looking for new ways to enhance the beauty of my clients. I will soon be introducing cutting edge beauty techniques to help define the brows and lashes, along with a line of skin care products that I working on, that encourages a healthy skin care routine.

How do you set goals and measure your success?
The best method for me is to always write down any tasks or budgets that need to be accomplished, whether it is weekly, monthly, or yearly. I always set specific deadlines so that I do not fall short of what needs to get done for my business. This is the best way to stay organized for me. Mistakes sometimes will be made, but each experience I learn from.

Who do you consider your peers in you field? How have they supported you? What best practices have they shared?
Name your favorite role models for success in two different industries?

Former first lady Michelle Obama for sure, she is [the] epitome of all the amazing things a woman can accomplish. Also, Ciara because I admire her dedication to giving back to her community and I think she is a great role model for young girls.

Technology plays what role in your daily life?
Technology plays a major role in my daily life, specifically through social media. Because I am an esthetician and offer services, I use my social media platforms daily to display my work. It is essential to give your current and future clients visuals so they know exactly what you do. Also, I use technology to make booking an appointment with me more convenient and organized.

What software and technology tools have made the biggest difference in your life?
Social media platforms have made the biggest impact for me, more specifically Instagram. At the moment, I work alone and because I am only one person I must let my work speak for itself. Social media has given me more recognition as time moves forward. Social media helps me to showcase my work and how satisfied my clients are with my services. It is very important that the world understands how serious I take my craft and social media helps me to relay that message.

How does music impact and influence you?
Music has a huge role in my life. I enjoy the many different stories that are conveyed through music. Some of my favorite messages in music are love, overcoming struggle, and faith. My favorite genre is R&B, especially old-school R&B. At Nicole’s Beauty Lounge ATL, I always try to use the music I play to help bring positive energy to my shop experience.

Describe your favorite vacation spot.
My favorite vacation spot that I visit most often is Los Angeles. Mostly when I go out of town, I like to go places where I can meditate and have that necessary “me” time. I have a lot of family there and I can get the vibe of city life as well as the beach! Most importantly, LA is where I see my business evolving to long term. Every time I am there, it motivates me to work harder. When I’m there, I visit areas of the city that I think Nicole’s Beauty Lounge will do well in. After all, LA is the beauty capital of the world.

Share why lifelong learning is important to you.
The beauty industry is always evolving. I feel that if I knew everything there would never be any surprises. Learning means that you are constantly growing. I never want to limit myself to anything specific because just like myself, I want my business and services to grow.

Describe the voice of success that you hear in your head.
The voice in my head is very loud and most certainly clear. It tells me every day to get up and do what I need to do to better myself and my business. If nothing else, the voice in my head is what pushes me aside from my family and friends. Most importantly, it motivates me to want [to do] better for my family, future, and those young women after me who need a role model to accomplish their dreams!
