Macy’s Backstage The Outlet Store makes it debut in Atlanta, opening today, April 21, 2017, at Gwinnett Place Mall. It doesn’t disappoint. This writer had an opportunity to peek behind the black curtain midweek.

“We created Macy’s Backstage for the seasoned outlet shopper who enjoys the excitement of the treasure hunt but whose time and money is a commodity,” Vanessa LeFebvre, SVP/general merchandise manager, says in a statement to press. “Our latest Backstage store is a convenient twist to the traditional outlet store format that we feel Macy’s and mall shoppers will enjoy and embrace, and we are thrilled to bring this new concept to Atlanta.”

Macy’s Backstage is just that. It’s sort of backstage to the major retailer. At the Gwinnett Place Mall location, specifically, it’s takes up 19,000 square feet on the second floor near the men’s department. It’s set up like familiar discount retailer TJ Maxx and Marshalls. You have quite a few options that you don’t find in the Macy’s store, like toys and electronic accessories. In addition to the men, women and children’s apparel from internationally recognized labels, cutting-edge designers and celebrity brands, there’s home, cosmetics, gifts, active wear and jewelry at 20 to 80 percent off comparable department store prices. For handbag lovers, among other favorites you’ll find must-have Michael Kors, as well Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Fendi. True shoppers and fashionistas who like to be different will find accessories and brands not found at the full-line department store that are delivered daily.

A fun, new twist is “Center Stage,” a dedicated space where “the latest trends, themes and styles get top billing to inspire the shopper.” There are other amenities like the free Wi-Fi and “Juice Bars,” i.e. designated charging stations.

The fitting rooms will be a favorite with three-way mirror installations and inspirational signs that remind you how much of a star you are. Shoppers will be able to use their Macy’s credit card and earn Plenti points.

We have a few photos here of what was happening behind the scenes as Macy’s stellar cast and crew were busy at work setting up for today’s soft opening. The grand Atlanta debut will be inside Macy’s Gwinnett Place Mall store on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 10 a.m. The first 100 customers will receive a $20 gift card. Two additional locations, Macy’s at Cumberland and the Macy’s Town Center at Cobb will open the following week.
