Aida Danielle is a creative, dedicated make-up artist. Originally from Paris and now based in Los Angeles, she started her career at the age of 18 by modeling and later by teaching modeling courses at a well-known established modeling school. She made a great name for her brand “Aida Cosmetics” by offering diversity and bold makeup.

Danielle and the company’s COO and VP, Amberly Olguin, founded the company in 2008. Here they share some insight.

What inspires you to show at work every day?
Aida Danielle: My inspiration for showing up to work everyday is my drive for success first and my dedication to developing my brand. I understand the amount of work it takes to run a business.

How did you determine your career path?
Aida Danielle: Make-up and beauty has always been a part of my life, even as a young girl I was always admiring my mother when she was applying makeup and getting dressed. She was very glamorous. Then, when I moved to California from France I started modeling in San Francisco and then transitioned into the Makeup industry.

Amberly Olguin: My story is quite different from Aida. I did not have a glamorous mom so all my inspiration for beauty growing up came from fashion/beauty magazine and TV.
I had multiple jobs, from customer service, sales, marketing to catering and event planning. When I met Aida, I fell in love with the products and then decided to join the company and add my expertise in marketing and event planning to the business.

What other industries connect to your career choice?
Aida Danielle: The fashion industry connects completely with the makeup/beauty industry. We are constantly following the fashion trends and try to keep up with the latest styles and season colors.

Describe the future skill sets that are essential to future business leader and innovators.
Amberly Olguin:
As a business leader and innovators, it’s essential and crucial for your business to have a strong presence on the Internet. Technology is progressing so fast and the Internet and social media marketing will benefit your business if used correctly.

Aida Danielle: As a business owner, I realized the importance of social networking and how fast it changes and grows. It’s also very essential to have excellent written and oral communication skills. You will always need these skills when dealing with clients, business partners and staff members. Of course, another great skill set is sales and negotiation. A lot of people dislike sales but in reality we all sell everyday whether it’s selling your self on an interview or trying to get out of a traffic ticket. So if you are not a good sales person then at least try to be a better negotiator.

Describe goal setting methods you use and how you evaluate you success?
Aida Danielle: I think because I am very ambitious quite competitive with myself. I enjoy setting goals and turning them into reality. The methods that I use are simple. I call it the “3 Ds method” – deadline, develop a plan and determine the obstacles.

I find it very rewarding to set goals, work on achieving them and then evaluate the success or learn from the errors.

Explain why life long learning is important to you.
Aida Danielle: I’ve always said that the best degree is the one you receive from life. Lifelong learning is important because it makes you who you are. We all can relate best to situations that we’ve experienced and to me life has done that.

It makes you humble, tolerant, diverse, and wiser and more importantly open cautious about whom to trust.

Technology plays what role in your daily life?
Amberly Olguin: Technology absolutely plays an important and big role in my daily life and the company daily life. Aida Cosmetics is on many social networks and we operate an online makeup store so our daily operations are via the computer – managing emails, posting and sharing information on social networks, creating newsletter, shipping products via online postage etc.

What software and tool of technology apps include has made the biggest difference in you life?
Aida Danielle: My top apps and tools are Square and Twitter. Square really made the biggest difference for me because it allowed my business to conduct sales transactions on the go in a timely a secure manner. I also love the Twitter platform for the international visibility that it brings to our business.
