Family Dollar has always proven that they are committed to showcasing the best in affordable urban beauty products and their Fabulous VIP Vlogger Event was an indicator that they are continuing in that strong tradition. Some of the most revered brands in hair and beauty were on-hand for the event, including Dark and Lovely and Cream of Nature. Styling icons like Johnny Wright and Ursula Stephen were among those enjoying the festivities, and model Melyssa Ford got to interact with the public and the brands like Motions and Cantu.

“Motions came and found me and they loved Rihanna’s hairstyles so they found me and asked me to be the global ambassador,” explained Stephen, who is a brand ambassador for Motions. “I love to talk about hair and educate people on hair care and styles. I love it.”

“We’re always reaching out to the community and making sure people know about our products,” Stephen added.

Actress Vanessa A. Williams was one of the notables at the Midtown Hilton in New York City enjoying the fun of the day and she encouraged black women to embrace events like this and embrace each other.

“We pay a lot of attention to our hair, but we really need to stop this idea of judging ourselves and judging each other,” Williams says. “It’s about keeping yourself on point, being good to your hair and being good to yourself. When I see another sister, I feel so much camaraderie, whether it’s natural or a weave or a wig — it’s wonderful. It’s a fashion statement! Sometimes you want locs and sometimes you want it tight and curly. We really could stop making it such a political thing and embrace innovation and all of the variations of beauty and blackness.”
