I look at the little kids now and I realize that they can quite possibly grow up in a world where they can truly believe that they can do anything that they want. If not for history class they wouldn’t even understand the incredible leap that having an African American president is. They may not even look at the president as black or white they will likely just see The President, whatever his skin color. This is the beauty of kids and it’s the beauty of change, yet the way that they should feel about their ability to accomplish goals should be light years beyond our thinking in grade school.

There are many positive things that I’ve noticed just out in the community since President Elect Obama’s victory over McCain. One thing I noticed is a general feeling of pride that seems to be surging through people of all colors, but especially black folk. Black women seem to be a little more optimistic about their men now and black men seem to be trying just a little harder to do the right thing, and get on their grind because they see that there really is no excuse and that no matter what your color you can achieve any and all things that you focus your faith on.

A friend of mine told me that a couple of weeks ago he was in Chicago and they were pretty much under martial law because of the murder rate and violence that plagues that city as it does many others; he said that there was an adult curfew and the whole nine but not many people had heard of it outside of Chi-Town because the media had been keeping it under wraps. I don’t know if that’s quite the truth or not but I do know that Chicago does have a violence problem and the night Barack Obama got elected there were very few serious incidents in that area and probably many, many others.

This President isn’t great because he’s black and he isn’t great simply in comparison to a bad leader like Bush. Barack Obama will make a great president because he is smart, a natural leader, and destined to help s country and by proxy the world to move forward in a positive direction towards the future. Fin
