T.I./Shawty Lo Scuffle at the Dirty Awards

In yet another moment of pure coonery at the hands of hip-hop, it went down at the Dirty Awards in Atlanta last night. Fights broke out, mace was sprayed by the PD, cats were throwing chairs– yeah. We’ve broke it down for ya.

1. Shawty Lo and T.I. pose for pictures backstage before the awards. They look like best pals, after apparently ending their “beef.” Still don’t really know what the “beef” was actually about. Something revolving ownership of Bankhead. Really, dude. If you’ve ever been to Bankhead, you’d know it’s nothing to fight about. Anyhoo.

2. Shawty Lo performs and proceeds to claim that he owns the south. Some people get mad at this assertion because they do not think Shawty Lo owns the south and believe him to be a fabricator. (Can anyone get the damn title deed to “the south” so that these questions of ownership can finally be quelled?) Rumor also has it that Lo made a reference to T.I.’s “wife”/girlfriend/mother of his children, Tiny. As of right now, this is still just a rumor.

3. T.I. performs and promotes non-violence (as he has been doing for the past year). He ends his speech with the powerful one-liner– “And you know Bankhead runs this!” Shawty Lo’s crew allegedly did not like T.I.’s declaration–and reportedly rush the stage. Fists flew, and Dirty attendees were forced to hop on tables to avoid getting pummelled or ran over (and those tables were small as hell, we might add… which sucks, especially if you were wearing heels).

4. Grand Hustle rapper, Alfamega gets involved in the scuffle. For those who are not aware- Alfamega is a big ass dude. He looks like he’d whup some ass. Apparently, the police recognized this fact and decided mace was necessary to detain him. Some folks say he kept on swinging.

ro has reached out to Alfamega, Shawty Lo and T.I.’s camp to allow them to clear up the situation and offer their side of the story. We’ll keep you posted as statements roll in. We’ll also link you to our exclusive video footage.

So Soulja Boy Was…Just Joking?

It seemed like “hating” bloggers’ worst criticims of Soulja Boy were validated in late October when Toure released an interview with the Supa-manning rapper where he said, “Shout out the slave masters! Without them we’d still in Africa…we wouldn’t be here to get this ice and tatoos!”

Insert: Hysterical backlash from every thinking person in America who caught wind of this.

But earlier this week, hiphopdx.com featured an interview with Soulja Boy (whose album drops in mid-December) about his inflammatory, insane comments. Soulja Boy claims that his comments were taken out of context and that he was actually being sarcastic because he didn’t want to do the interview with Toure anyway. He says that he had seen the interview that he did with his pals, Bow Wow and Omarion and he knew that Toure would be out to hurt him.

He was out for me to say something stupid so he can hurt me with [it],” Soulja Boy said. “And that’s what he did. So you know, it is what it is. Man, fuck Toure.

Now, I’l lbe the first to admit that Toure is a little annoying. And yes, he does seem to like to try to bait artists into being stupid with his questioning. But is it really his fault if they take the bait?

So what do you think? Was Soulja Boy really being sarcastic? Were his comments taken out of context? Or is he really a dumb ass? You decide.

4 Years After Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Passing, His Mom Speaks

The following is a letter Cherry Jones, Ol’s Dirty Bastard’s mom, would like to release to the media (in her own words) -

Four years ago today marks one of the most tragic days in my life when I lost my son Rusty whom many of you know as Ol’ Dirty Bastard. For the past four years I have sat back and watched certain individuals try and tarnish my sons beliefs. My son loved every single one of his children and every single one of their mothers and provided for them all the best he could when he was alive. My son was an extremely generous soul. In the past four years, my daughter has portrayed me very poorly in law, Icelene. While I am very upset with my daughter in law’s false remarks towards me, I am more upset by the way the other children Rusty had fathered and cherished are not being taken care of properly. I am also outraged that it appears Icelene has been diverting money away from the other children and taking out personal loans against Rusty’s Estate Assets. She has gone through numerous attorneys and her new attorneys have racked up numerous amounts of legal fees and have accomplished nothing. The fans want my son’s last album, which they are not allowing Koch to drop. Read more

NEW Slim Thug - “I Run”

slim thug

So, Slim Thug just released a new single, “I Ru,n” produced by the ever-so-popular, Jim Jonsin. Don’t go expecting it to sound anything like the jelly jams that were on his last project with Boss Hogg Outlawz. None
of that syrupy-Texas sound, or hard-hitting drums here.

It sounds like instead, Slim was trying to make a radio-single, which… well, is what it is. The track is really synth heavy with an 80s-pop, Miami Vice-sounding  vocal arrangement on the hook.

Basically the track is about keeping things moving even in the midst of a drought or a recession/depression. Slim talks about how the whole country is hurting financially and practically pleads…

“Mr. Obama we so tired of selling crack/if you looking for me, ask the streets where I’m at…”

Slim’s new solo project will be out on Koch Records in early 2009.
