Brokenhearted But Ready To Try Again

Dear Fly Guy,

I broke up with my boyfriend about 6 months ago. How long do you think you should wait before jumping into another relationship? I’m starting to get lonely, but I’m scared I might get hurt again. What should I do? Please help?

Examining 5 Common Relationship Myths

There are but three certainties in life. Death, taxes, and John McCain’s inability to give a high five. While those three occurrences are virtually money in the bank, what you can’t always rely on is a complete understanding of love and relationships. Here’s the deal; as appealing as love may be, its intricacies are often as confusing as Al Sharpton’s insistence that man perms are cool.

A main factor contributing to this confusion is a laundry list of rules instituted by society long ago. But now it’s time to challenge those archaic principles as we examine Five Common Relationship Myths. Read more

Sometimes Rejection Is A Good Thing

I was just two months into my journey as the Fly Guy, and the buzz surrounding my love advice brand was already building. As a result of my increased visibility around the city, a local radio station invited me down to do a guest spot as a love expert. While relaxing in the staff lounge, a young lady walked in, and was easily one of the most beautiful women that I had ever seen in my life. Read more

5 Signs That You’ve Been Single For Too Long

You can always tell when a wild animal has been held in captivity for too long. They possess this glazed over look in their eyes—it’s unmistakable. The same can be said for those who have been single for an unbearably long period of time. Now I’m not talking about a couple of months either. Let’s just say this person hasn’t had a real date since Bobby Brown could actually afford his child support payments.

What’s most unfortunate in many of these cases is the person is unaware that they’ve even reached this point in their life. So to serve as an official wake up call, I’ve decided to share 5 Signs That You Have Been Single For Too Long. Read more

Condoleezza Rice on Barack Obama’s Historic Win

Condoleezza Rice spoke today following last night’s transformative election. Despite sitting under a very unpopular President for the past eight years, Rice was visibly excited in the aftermath of Obama’s historic win. On more than one occasion, I was half expecting Rice to scream “We Did It!!!!” into the television camera. Sadly, she failed to deliver what would have been a priceless moment. All jokes aside though, Rice’s comments show that no matter who you are, nor what you believe, this is a moment for us all to be proud.

Yes We Can- Barack Obama Elected 44th President

The people have spoken, and the history books have officially been rewritten. Democratic Senator Barack Obama has become the 44th President of the United States of America by defeating John McCain in a hard fought election.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. passionately spoke of seeing the Promised Land in the final speech of his life. One can only sense that Obama’s election is a bold step in the direction of the American people finally realizing that dream. This is a moment for all Americans: black, white, young and old to embrace just how far we’ve come as a country.

Lauryn Hill- The Thrill Is Gone

Let’s switch roles for a moment because I really need to discuss something with you. (Yeah, I’m stepping out of Fly Guy mode for just a sec.) You see, there’s this special someone that I’ve cared about for as long as I can remember. And honestly, if you would have asked me a few years back, I probably would have told you that I’d love her forever.

But things have a way of changing over time. Before I realized what was happening, she had gone from being the apple of my eye, to just an eye sore. Listen, I know my feelings shouldn’t be based on her physical attributes alone, but what if the change in her appearance is so drastic that I no longer recognize the person I initially fell for? Anyway, I can’t form the words to tell her that I want out, so if you happen to run into her, please relay this message. That’s right; I’m taking the coward way out on this one…

She used to be my queen…

But then I woke up one day and she was Tyrone Biggums

Fly Question-
Tell me about a time when you lost interest in someone, and your decision was strictly based on their physical appearance. How did you break the news to them? Did you tell the truth, or make up some other reason?

Jada Pinkett Smith Speaks On Baby Mamma Drama

My trip to LA last week, found me having quite an interesting chat with Jada Pinkett Smith. While I won’t bore you with all the details of our conversation, I do want to share her interesting views on “Baby Mamma Drama.” As one who’s personally dealt with raising another woman’s child (from husband Will Smith’s previous marriage), she was all too ready to help others avoid the pitfalls that can occur with such a scenario. Check out the audio of what she had to say.
