Stacey Muhammad is an award winning filmmaker and music video director who has written, directed and produced a series of award winning short films.


What part of NY do you live in?  How long have you lived in NYC?


I live in Brooklyn, the Fort Greene area.  I’ve lived in New York for six years.

Why do you live in NYC?  I initially moved to NY to attend a film program and pursue a calling in film making. Six years later, I’m still here, doing exactly what I moved here to do.


 Give our readers tips about NYC that are helpful

Utilize the extensive NYC artist community to connect with others and build a solid support network.   Artist help networks offer resources for artist making a transition to NYC.  The skyrocketing rent here is a challenge, so looking into organizations that assist artist with housing as well as connecting them to funding opportunities is important.   The resources are here for whatever you want or need to do. Utilize them.

What is one of your favorite things about NYC?   NYC is a creative hub and home to countless artist in every genre of artistic expression. Whether its pulling together a talented and skilled crew of people for a production or enjoying a night out at a Broadway show, that living breathing artist energy, and community is here.

Who is your favorite New Yorker?   Sojourner Truth. She was born a slave  in Ulster County, NY. After escaping to freedom in 1826, she went on to become an abolitionist and women’s rights advocate.
