T-Mobile, the country’s fourth-largest carrier, revealed a plan to upgrade its network to make it more iPhone-friendly, as well as a longer-term project to deploy high-speed LTE connectivity.

The carrier plans to improve some of its network frequencies, which will let iPhones run at 3G speeds. T-Mobile expects this to happen in “a large number of markets” by the end of the year.

There are at least one million unlocked iPhones running on T-Mobile now, however, they’re currently limited to 2G, the same connection speed from the first iPhone in 2007.

T-Mobile may have an edge over the other carriers (which is still limited to AT&T), since its implementation will actually be “LTE-Advanced,” a wireless technology that can achieve speeds even faster than the current LTE. However, it really depends on how dedicated T-Mobile is to building the network, and how many other carriers don’t jump on the LTE bandwagon.

In the meantime, check out the top 15 apps you should add to your iPhone, and if you don’t have one, here are 15 reasons you just might switch over.
