Who runs the world! Girls ruled the music industry in 2011. Nicki Minaj carried the momentum from her 2010 debut, Pink Friday, into 2011. She released two certified hit singles (“Super Bass,” “Moment for Life”), and even outshined her mentor, Lil Wayne, on the “I Am Music Tour 2.”
Beyoncé reclaimed her place as this generation’s biggest pop star with the release of her album, 4. The album featured several smash hits, but Beyoncé’s baby bump actually got the most attention.
Rihanna released her exuberant sixth album Talk That Talk in November. But her year ended with two unfortunate racial incidents that occurred overseas. She was called a derogatory name by a resident at a Lisbon hotel that she was staying at while on tour.
