“Killing Me Softly” music video director sentenced

The man who directed the Fugees hit music video “Killing Me Softly”, has been sentenced to at least 90 years in prison for raping and impregnating his daughters. Aswad Ayinde, 55, was given 50 years in prison Friday having been found guilty in the second of five trials for the continuous rapes of his children. Prior to the trial he was already sentenced to 40 years in jail for sexually assaulting another daughter.

Ayinde is accused of fathering six children with his six girls, one of which he had intercourse with when she was just 8-years-old. His ex-wife previously told authorities that a deranged Ayinde wanted to create “pure” family bloodlines by impregnating several of his children. She also said he thought he was “chosen” to do so because of an impending apocalypse.

“He said the world was going to end and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen,” The unidentified woman told police.

Prosecutors say the man beat the girls who were isolated from the outside world and home schooled, with wooden boards and steel-toed boots. Furthermore, in at least two instances, babies who died in the home were buried without authorities being notified.

Ayinde’s alleged crimes spanned over 30 years until Mr. Ayinde and his wife separated, officials said. The rapes reportedly occurred in numerous homes across northern New Jersey and even while the family was under watch of state child welfare officials.
