The city of Fresno, California, is reeling after the arrest of Deputy Chief Keith Foster. Foster was arrested this week after an almost yearlong investigation by the FBI and ATF. In his position as deputy chief of the Fresno Police Department, Foster was the second in command for the fifth largest city in California.

Along with Foster, five other suspects in the drug ring were arrested. The group faces a multitude of charges from conspiracy to the distribution of marijuana, oxycodon and heroin. Foster was caught on tape using code words for drugs such as “China White” and arranging meetings of various members of the drug ring.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer was not aware of investigation until the morning of the arrests and expressed his shock to the media. The arrest tarnishes the proud law enforcement history of the Foster family. Foster’s father was also a police officer for whom a police sub-station was named. Dyer announced that Foster was placed on paid leave and stripped of his badge and gun.
