Lester Chambers attacked for Trayvon Martin dedication

After dedicating a song to the memory of Trayvon Martin, a soul singer was attacked by a crazed woman reportedly enraged about the case. Lester Chambers, 73, was performing at Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival in Hayward, California Saturday when he was attacked by Dinalynn Andrews Potter, 43.

According to the Mercury News and a video recorded by Fuse TV, Potter jumped on stage and knocked down the former Chambers Brothers member while he performed Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Ready.” After dedicating it to Trayvon Martin, Chambers told the audience that if the song was recorded today Mayfield would change the lyrics from “There’s a train a comin’” to “there’s a change a comin.'”

An enraged Andrews Potter was then seen on video rushing on stage and knocking the older man to the ground before being subdued by a number of musicians on stage. She was then arrested on suspicion of battery. She has since been released.

“I have never been attacked on stage in my whole career of performing… This was the FIRST!!! STILL SHAKEN UP… STILL SORE AS CAN BE…THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE LOVE,” wrote Chambers on Facebook after his son shared a photo of his injury.
