U.S. Capitol shooting

A shooting has been reported at the U.S. Capitol. The Associated Press reports that a police officer was injured after a gunman opened fire and forced authorities to shutdown the entire complex.

According to witness Edmund Ofori-Attah, police chased a black vehicle up Constitution Avenue toward the Capitol. When the car finally stopped, he heard gunshots.

“Then I heard the gunfire and hit the ground,” Ofori-Attah told The AP.

Bystanders were rushed into the Capitol and the building was placed on lockdown. The White House was also briefly put on lockdown.

Both lockdowns have since ended.

The shooting comes as lawmakers debate over how to end a government shutdown.

This story is still developing…
